The Decree on the Appropriate Renewal of Religious Life
Perfectae Caritatis – Complete Love -
promulgated by the second Vatican Council in 1965
required that Religious Congregations adapt to the changed needs of the times
and renew themselves in the spirit and charism of their founders.
The Diocesan Institutes of the Sisters of St Joseph
founded from Perthville, New South Wales 1872;
Wanganui, New Zealand 1880;
Goulburn, New South Wales 1882;
Lochinvar, New South Wales 1883; and,
Westbury, Tasmania 1887,
while retaining autonomy as independent religious institutes formed
The Australian-New Zealand Federation of Sisters of St Joseph
in 1967.
