Governance: Chapter

Governance |Leaders' Stories

Governance in the Congregation
Is exercised in a collegial manner by the General Chapter.
The Chapter
Is an invitation to enter a faith experience,
Faith in God and in each other.
As equals we discern,
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
The future direction of our corporate life and mission.
The Chapter,
acting in the name of the Congregation,
embodies the aspirations of the sisters
(Constitutions p.39)

In January 2003, the congregational leader, Sister June Flynn convened the 12th General Chapter in accordance with our Constitutions. She invited the sisters to see the chapter as a ‘freeing and transformative experience’ as we faced the tasks of the General Chapter:

To safeguard the Congregation’s spiritual heritage,
Its nature, purpose, spirit, character
And life-giving traditions
And to promote
The renewal of its spiritual and apostolic vitality
In accordance with its charism.
(Constitutions p.40)

During 2003 the sisters met frequently in small and large groups to address these issues. After much discernment, prayer and deliberation the Sisters agreed on a mission focus statement for 2004-2008;

AS WOMEN OF HOPE

WE CONTINUE

OUR RADICAL DISCIPLESHIP OF JESUS

ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER

TO BE OUTWARD LOOKING,

OUTWARD REACHING,

GENEROUS AND

COMMITTED TO EXPLORING WHAT IT MEANS

TO BE A SISTER OF ST JOSEPH

IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM.
