SPIRITUALITY

Our Spirituality - Josephite Spirituality

Introduction| Lochinvar Hymn

Traditionally, as Sisters of St Joseph,
our spirituality is centred on the person of Jesus
and acknowledges the place of Mary, Mother of God, as his first disciple.
We honour St Joseph and St John the Baptist as Congregational patrons.
Our expressions of Spirituality are to harmonise with contemporary theology
and reflect the diversity of our experiences of God.
(Constitutions p. 21)

THE SCRIPTURES

Aware that God is alive and active in the Sacred Scriptures
We break open the Word to one another
In the sharing of our life experiences
(Constitutions p.19)

PRAYER

Our life together
is nourished by a life of prayer
that is personal and communal.
God's Spirit draws us to daily personal prayer,
refreshing us in the midst of our ministry,
developing in us the gift of true wisdom,
enriching our sharing in liturgy
and disposing us to bring a sister's love
to God's people
(Constitutions p 20)

THE EUCHARIST

The Eucharist
Is central to our lives.
It gives expression to our unity
And reconciles us to one another.
From it we draw courage
To give ourselves in service to others
We celebrate the Eucharist
Daily where possible
(Constitutions p 20)

THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS

In the liturgy of the Hours
we unite with Christ and the Church
in praising God and interceding for the whole world,
making our own
the joys and the hopes, the grief and the anguish
of all God's people
(Constitutions p 20)

ANNUAL RETREAT

Following the example of Jesus
we withdraw from the rhythm of our daily life
to grow more attentive
to the promptings of the Holy Spirit
during our annual retreat
(Constitutions p 21)
