The Feast of the Birth of John the Baptist  24th June

St John the Baptist was the son of Elizabeth and Zachary and the cousin whom Jesus described as a prophet, "and more than a prophet".

Julian chose John the Baptist as one of the special patrons of the Sisters. In the Explanation of the Rule and Constitution of the Sisters of St Joseph, Julian says John the Baptist was "a pillar of the Holy Family in the work of the Incarnation, and most dear to the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph."

Prayers

Response to Psalm 63

1. Lord, Creator of unfailing light,
John saw you light up the sky to announce Jesus as your Son
With whom you were “well-pleased”.
May our lips praise you
For the revelation of Jesus to his cousin John
And to all generations
May our lives as Josephites be modelled on John’s resolution
To let Jesus increase as he ‘decreased’
We make this prayer through him whom John announced,
Jesus our light Amen

Response to Psalm 149

Let Israel rejoice in you, Lord,
Acknowledging you as Creator
With trust we pray that we, like our patron John the Baptist,
May prepare, in the lives of people we meet,
A way for Jesus
May we be filled with the Holy Spirit
as we announce in the way we live,
the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A Blessing

May the spirit of John the Baptist
Inspire us to clear a way for the Lord
In our own lives and the lives of those we meet this week;
And may the blessing of our Creator God,
Of the Lamb of God,
And of the Holy Spirit
Rest upon us all. Amen.
