Celebrating the
Conclusion of Literature
Introduction to Literature,
the third unit of Catalyst Clemente Newcastle finished on
Wednesday June 16 with a celebration which began with students
participating in two dramatic readings from plays they had
studied. Guests were entertained with excerpts from A
Midsummer Night’s Dream and How does your Garden Grow
by Jim McNeil.
Guests included Sr. Ellen Royan from the leadership team of the
Sisters of St. Joseph, Lochinvar, Associate Professor Peter
Howard and Jennifer He from Australian Catholic University,
Megan Smith from CatholicCare, Scott Moore Centre Manager of
Westfield Kotara, Catherine Jones representing Carroll & O’Dea
Lawyers, Leaning Partners and their families and the families
and friends of students.
At the conclusion of the reading students expressed their thanks
to Jean Talbot their lecturer for Introduction to Literature,
and Morrie Scott, a well know local dramatic identity who worked
with them in the drama section of the unit. The students amazed
themselves, noting their shift from a significant lack of
confidence when they began to the very convincing performances
offered on the day.

After a cup of coffee and cake provided by the students,
everyone adjourned to the Soul Café who provided us with
lunch. This also turned out to be another opportunity to make
new friends with members of the Life Church Newcastle who
also work with those who experience disadvantage. We are
grateful to them for the hospitality. Click here

the lunch.
