What We Do

Tenison Woods
Education Centre |
Our Story Our Spirit
The Tenison Woods Education Centre is a ministry of
the Sisters of St. Joseph Lochinvar. It was established in 1993 in
response to a Diocesan Synod which expressed the need for adult
faith formation for the people of God.

When
Julian Tenison
Woods
and
Mary
MacKillop
responded to the needs of the rural children in the Penola
area they set an example of courageous willingness to go to
the edge and fly. It is this spirit that prompted Sr Evelyn
Woodward and the Congregational Council to commit us to put
our resources at the service of the diocese to meet this new
need in the last decade of the Twentieth century and leading
into the third millennium. |

Early efforts were made to explore what was wanted by
going out to the parishes such as Bulahdelah, Murrurundi and
Krambach, with pilot courses on Scripture and theology that touched
into the life experience of adults. This gave a taste of what was
possible. People responded positively and soon asked that more be
made available. |
|
As TWEC has developed over the years, its vision,
mission, values and practice continue to be shaped by the Josephite
spirit. We are still trying to address new needs in the spirit of
Julian and Mary whose watchword was: “Never
see a need without trying to do something to meet it.”
