Sr M Ignatius Flanagan

Died 09 April 1946
Brigid Flanagan was born in Millers Forest near Raymond Terrace on 8 September 1861 to John Flanagan and Mary Casey. She entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of St Joseph in 1891 where she received the name of Sister Mary Ignatius.
She was known and loved from end to end of the Diocese as she lived and worked in a great many places: Knockfin, Cessnock, Brookfield, Wingen, Wybong, Glendonbrook and West Wallsend. She filled the office of Superior in many of the branch houses of the congregation;
Failing health induced her to ask, some years prior to her death, to be relieved of her office, and from that time she was stationed at Lochinvar, a constant edification to all. A sudden attack of pneumonia carried her off in a few days. Sister M. Ignatius Flanagan passed away on 9 April 1946 aged eighty-four. After her Requiem Mass in the convent chapel she was buried in the Sisters’ section of the Lochinvar cemetery.
