Over the years Sr Jan Tranter has written many scholarly articles on the life and wide-ranging mission of Fr Julian Edmund Tenison Woods, who with St Mary MacKillop, played a pivotal role both in the founding of the Sisters of St Joseph and in the wider Australian Story.
Recently, Sr Jan was invited to publish her many articles in a book entitled Julian Tenison Woods, the Human Story: Priest, Founder, Friend. The book will be launched by Bishop Michael Kennedy on 31 May at 2.00 pm at the Diocesan Resource Centre, Parry Street, Hamilton.
The articles in Sr Jan’s book invite us to meet Father Woods, the man, the priest, the founder, the friend. The title, The Human Story, filters through all the articles. They take the reader into Woods’ family, his formative years and the life issues of decision, identity, struggle, joy, friendship, opposition, failure, suffering, illness and death that are part of every human journey. They show the deep challenges he faced from mid-teens to death. His life was marked with the cross. The articles reflect Woods’ extraordinary energy of body and spirit as well as and despite repeated illness.
All are welcome to attend the launch on Sunday 31 May.
